m'afrique by moroso
M’Afrique is a wonderful project by design company Moroso. The inspirational continent Africa, the place of legends and the cradle of the human race meets the Italian spirit, the playful, yet meticulous manufacturing industry. Let design be their common denominator. Let designers and African craftsmen create a common language, celebrating intuition and talent. The different interpretations of materiality are translated into furniture and accessories for the outdoor. Modern production techniques merge with traditional handcraft, bursting into a firework of colours: The art of weaving is turned into design.
Hence, designers and Senegalese craftsmen create unique objects with an inherent authenticity. Inspired by the material of fisher nets Federica Capitani created Imba with handwoven threads forming seat and armpits. The woven armchair Husk and the table and stool ensemble Baobab by American designer Marc Thorpe create a colourful lounge and a meeting place which makes us feel as if sitting under a Baobab Tree. With Jardin Suspendu Concetta Giannangeli, the head of the creative team at Moroso, creates lively atmosphere adding woven vase holders in different heights, colours and diameters to the setting. Tord Boontje joins in with O-Chair, a decorative and airy chair with rounded backrest reminiscing the woven patterns of dreamcatchers. Arco, yet another armchair by Martino Gamper uses a more close-meshed weaving technique, creating a delicate seat and backrest in bright colours.
